W-405 is a special additive for hardening and stabilizing waxes and various paraffin blends. It is also suitable for use in wax blends containing stearin.
W-405 helps improve the structure of the wax and the properties of the finished product, and is suitable for enhancing the properties of various candle waxes and wax blends.
Key Features of the W-405
- Hardens wax and wax blends —helps make the wax stronger and more stable.
- Binds and encapsulates fats —helps bind various fat components more effectively in a wax mixture.
- Reduces sticky spots – helps reduce sticky areas that form on the surface of the wax product.
- Increases opacity —gives the wax a hazier, milky, or more opaque appearance.
- Helps reduce color changes —may improve the color stability of the wax blend.
- Reduces candle dripping —may help reduce or, in the case of certain formulations, prevent wax from dripping during burning.
- Suitable for mixtures containing paraffin and stearin.
Recommended serving size
0.02–0.1% of the total mass of the wax mixture.
A good starting concentration for testing is 0.05%.
For example:
- 0.05% per 1 kg of wax = 0.5 g of W-405
- 0.05% per 5 kg of wax = 2.5 g of W-405
- 0.05% per 10 kg of wax = 5 g of W-405
W-405 can also be used at higher concentrations, for example up to 1%, but according to the manufacturer, such a high concentration is generally not economically justified.
Melting point
72–76 °C
W-405 should be added to the wax mixture at a temperature that allows the additive to melt completely and blend evenly with the wax. After adding it, stir thoroughly until the mixture is homogeneous.
Important
W-405 is intended for use in waxes and wax blends.
