IFRA and safety
Bergamot essential oil is widely used, but with important limitations.
Can be used for:
- body care products
- in soaps and shampoos
- in perfumery and home fragrances
Important:
- phototoxic (in particular the cold-pressed variant contains bergapten)
- avoid exposure to sunlight for 12-24 hours after skin application
- use diluted
- comply with IFRA limits (very low % in leave-on products)
- not recommended for candles, as the smell dissipates quickly and the candle does not burn steadily.
