Addition of colouring matters
For paraffin waxes, including Kerax Kerawax 485, it is recommended to add colorants between 0.1% and 0.3% of the total wax weight. This will depend on the type of colourant used (liquid, solid, powder) and the intensity of the shade desired.
For translucent colours, an addition of 0.1% is usually sufficient. Up to 0.3% can be used to achieve a stronger and deeper shade. If too much colourant is used, it may affect the burning quality of the candle, for example by causing sooting or altering the structure of the wax.
The colouring agent should be added to the melting wax before adding the fragrance oil, usually at a temperature of about 70 °C, to ensure proper melting and mixing.
For paraffin waxes, Wedo IV ZN5, LX or WM4, the Stabilo series of waxes, are suitable, as they ensure an even burn and are also suitable for scented candles.
